Web Design Standards
What are web design standards?
Web design standards, as set out by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), are in place to ensure websites are built to compliancy. A set of guidelines that specify how websites (and software that access websites such as web browsers and screen readers etc.) should be built so as to ensure that widest posible audience can view the content of a web page as it is intended. Failure to comply to web standards does not mean that your site will un-usable, and it does not mean that people will unable to access your pages or your search engine rankings will suffer; however by conforming, these problems are less likley to occur.
What benefits does web standards compliancy bring?
Because Moov2 comply's with the W3C's XHTML 1.1 web design standards, your website will be viewed the same by all visitors on all web browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox etc). This is actually a common failure of non-compliance. The cost of ownership should be reduced as your website will be built properly the first time and hence errors, re-works and down time should be kept to a minimum. By complying with standards, the coding of your website will be properly written, resulting in the maintenance of the site's pages a far easier and quicker task. The site's build will be structurally sound, allowing better web accessibility for both abled and disabled users as well as search engines. How do I know if our website conforms?
Visit the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) online mark-up validation service, enter your website address and click "check." This service will return any problems that are found with your web pages in respect of the defined web standards.
How much more will a web standards compliant website cost to develop?
Web standards do not incur much extra time when the web project is specified correctly from the start. By employing a development agency such as Moov2 who are able to build web standards compliant sites the cost to ensure compliancy will be included in the standard quotation for all new website developments. For more information on Web Standards Compliancy, call Moov2 on Bournemouth (01202) 398 380 or e-mail info@moov2.com
