Those are just a few of the many common complaints that we’ve heard with desktop-based software over the years, which resulted in the enviable shift to the web.

Rich Desktop Applications have emerged, combining the benefits of both web and desktop application, but developed using web based technologies, building bridges to overcome the problems previously faced by cross platform development, and the sharing of information with other systems. This means that our Rich Desktop Applications will run on Microsoft Windows, Apple Macs as well as Linux based operating systems without the need for expensive customization and / or separate installation packages. This can be achieved through the use of the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) platform using Flex or other technologies associated with the web.

Rich Desktop Applications, using the leading RDA Adobe AIR platform have inbuilt functionality to enable access to computers’ local file systems, and also support 128 bit AES secure local storage and a self contained SQLite database engine.

These facilities allow not only native access to the operating system, but provide an extremely powerful platform off of which we can build applications which integrate with web based services and centralized databases, but are equally as useful when disconnected from the internet.

When the user reconnects, we can then synchronize the locally stored information with a centralized database and manage any conflicts that have occurred in the offline interim period, which gives organizations the ability to deploy really workable online/offline distributed business systems, across operating system platforms with the minimum of fuss and IT administration overhead.
